About the role
ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL, PRODUCT
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid)
THE OPPORTUNITY
Hinge Health is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Product to serve as a strategic, practical, and business-enabling legal partner to our Product, Engineering, Clinical, Commercial, Privacy, Compliance, and other cross-functional teams.
You will help Hinge Health bring innovative digital health products and services to market responsibly, advising from early product concepts through launch, commercialization, and scaling. This role will counsel on the legal and regulatory issues that arise in a healthcare technology business serving employers, health plans, and their members—including healthcare privacy and HIPAA, corporate practice of medicine, and the operational and legal considerations of a “friendly PC” operating model.
This is a high-impact role for an experienced attorney with management experience who can navigate ambiguity, build trust with a wide range of stakeholders, and translate complex legal requirements into clear, actionable guidance. You will help the business move quickly without losing sight of patient care, member trust, clinical independence, and responsible risk management.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- In your first 3 months: Build strong working relationships with Product, Engineering, Clinical, Privacy, Compliance, Commercial, and executive stakeholders; develop a deep understanding of Hinge Health’s products, care model, employer and health-plan partnerships, and medical-entity structure; provide a fresh perspective on key product, privacy, healthcare regulatory, CPOM, FWA, and friendly-PC legal considerations and identify opportunities to improve playbooks, templates, training, and decision frameworks.
- In your first 6 months: Build trusted relationships with senior leaders and become a go-to advisor who can clearly articulate risk, options, and recommendations – even when the right path is not obvious or stakeholders have competing priorities; serve as a primary legal partner on high-priority product initiatives, advising teams through discovery, design, testing, launch, marketing, and ongoing iteration; provide practical advice on HIPAA and other healthcare privacy requirements, data use and sharing, member-facing experiences, clinical workflows, and the legal implications of new technologies and care delivery models; mentor and develop members of the Legal team, and contribute to a high-performing, collaborative legal function through thoughtful delegation, feedback, knowledge sharing, and team leadership.
- In your first year: Shape a scalable product legal strategy and operating model that anticipates regulatory change, reduces friction for product teams, and enables responsible growth across employer and health-plan channels.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- You must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Serve as a primary legal advisor for product, engineering, clinical, privacy, compliance, commercial, and executive teams.
- Advise throughout the product lifecycle, including strategy, design, testing, launch, commercialization, marketing, and post-launch changes.
- Provide practical guidance on healthcare regulation, HIPAA, data use, privacy, clinical workflows, and emerging technologies.
- Identify, prioritize, and clearly communicate material legal risks, options, and recommendations.
- Support medical-entity governance, friendly-PC structures, and related intercompany arrangements.
- Develop scalable legal processes, playbooks, templates, training, and decision frameworks.
- Lead concurrent legal workstreams while responding effectively to changing priorities and incomplete information.
- Build trusted cross-functional relationships and influence decisions involving competing legal, clinical, and business considerations.
- Mentor and develop Legal team members through delegation, feedback, and knowledge sharing.
- Communicate complex legal concepts clearly through written advice, meetings, and presentations.
- Assist with international product launches and regulatory requirements across key global markets, including data protection frameworks such as GDPR, cross-border data flows, and jurisdiction-specific healthcare regulations.
- Support legal and compliance requirements for government programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, and VA channels, and advise on related billing, credentialing, and federal contracting obligations.
- Advise on clinical scope-of-practice requirements, provider supervision models, and multi-state telehealth regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate effectively in Hinge Health’s hybrid environment, including three days in-office per week participation consistent with the hybrid-work policy.
WHO YOU ARE
- You are a product-minded attorney with healthcare experience who enjoys learning how products and care models work, then helping teams make sound decisions at the right time.
- You are creative and pragmatic. You can identify material risk, distinguish it from theoretical risk, and develop options that balance legal requirements, patient and member interests, and business objectives.
- You communicate clearly and directly with legal and non-legal audiences, making complex healthcare and regulatory concepts understandable and actionable.
- You build trust across a wide range of working styles, including with senior stakeholders, and you can deliver clear recommendations in the face of legal uncertainty.
- You are comfortable operating with limited precedent, shifting priorities, and incomplete information. You use sound judgment, ask the right questions, and keep work moving.
- You are an inclusive people leader who develops others, gives candid and constructive feedback, and creates clarity and accountability for the team.
- You embody Hinge Health’s values: Learn-it-all, Hustle, Accountability, and Lead at all levels.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.

- Direct people-management experience, including meaningful experience leading, mentoring, and developing attorneys or legal professionals.
- Experience partnering with cross-functional and executive stakeholders in a fast-moving, highly regulated environment.
- Strong track record of balancing legal risk with business needs, developing creative solutions, and influencing decisions across teams with different perspectives and priorities.
- Experience advising on AI-enabled products, medical devices, clinical technology, or other emerging healthcare technologies.
